Hiking Season

I went for my first hike of the year yesterday...just over to Tiger Mountain.  One thing I love about Seattle is that I can spend less than 15 mins in the car, and arrive at a mountain trail that lets me gain 2,600 feet of elevation in less than 3 miles.  Of course, my calves are now feeling every one of those 2,600 feet.  But, it was a good warm-up for what I hope will be an excellent summer of hiking.  I didn't take advantage of the Northwest last year, so I intend to really make up for that this time around.  Next hike...Snoqualmie Tunnel.

Beat the Bridge 2008

10668

Yesterday was the annual Beat the Bridge race down at the University.  It was an 8k race, significantly farther than the few 5ks that I've run in the past.  But, it was a lot of fun.  And best of all....I ran the entire way!  This new-year resolution stuff is really paying off.

Of course, I didn't actually "beat" the bridge.  It was totally up by the time I got there.  But, it gave me a chance to stop for a minute, drink some water, and enjoy the sunshine.  So, I can't complain too much.

What an amazing weekend!  Golf....running in the sunshine...cedar-smoked Copper River salmon....it was a very good Seattle weekend.  But, I still miss Texas a lot.  Hmmmmmm......

post-auction

DSC_1584-7507-M The Black & White Soiree was a success!  I had a great time, and I think everyone really enjoyed themselves.  It was fun to see all the hard work come together. And of course, it was also great to get to wear my favorite dress again.  I got a lot of compliments which is always a great ego boost!

Black & White Soirée

black_white_logoThis Saturday is our Junior League auction event.  Everyone has been working really hard to get the final details ironed out, and I'm excited to see how it all comes together.  I'm volunteering at the event, which means I'll probably spend the evening checking in guests and gathering up their auction items.  But, the best part is -- I get to wear my favorite ball gown (which I've only worn once).

It's also the night of the Texas Independence Day celebration.  I think I'll be a little OVERdressed for that event.  Maybe I'll have to put my cowgirl hat on to balance things out!

New York City

I just had a wonderful weekend in New York.  I got to hang out with my friend Erin, who I hadn't seen since we went to the Galapagos more than a year ago.  The first night we spent catching up over a strong pitcher of margaritas, which was quite fun.  On Saturday, we walked around her neighborhood and over to Times Square.  bg_home_elle

We were unable to get tickets for Wicked that night, so instead....we saw Legally Blond.   I loved it!!!  (Erin had fun too, but was a little more reserved in her appreciation of the show).

Later that night, we engaged in the New York tradition of trying to talk our way into a swanky club in the Meat Packing District (no success...).  And Sunday was pretty low key.  We had a late brunch and did some book shopping before I had to head back to Seattle.

Overall, it was a great reminder of how much I really value my good friends, and how sad it is that I see them so rarely.  Now there's a good New Year's resolution for me......
